Licenses

Our games stand on fonts, code and books that other people made and gave away. Their licenses ask that their notices travel with the work, so here they are.

Stellar Nursery

On Steam for Windows and Apple silicon Macs.

Fonts

Five typefaces, all under the SIL Open Font License 1.1:

Music

The score and every sound effect in Stellar Nursery are made by Portia Plays.

Music in the early free demo and the trailer

Free demo builds up to version 0.4.1 played music by other composers, never used in the full game. All of it is under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0, used as released apart from volume leveling. The trailer uses "Theory of Machines" by Scott Buckley.

Software

The Electron and steamworks.js licenses in full

Sandkeeper

On Steam for Windows and Apple silicon Macs. This matches the colophon at the back of the game.

Typeface

The game is set in three typefaces. Other people drew them and gave them away, which is a generous thing to do with years of work.

Caveat is his hand: the tags, the labels, and the names of your bottles.

Patrick Hand is hers: the line under each of his pages, and the inside cover of his book.

Vollkorn is the serif: pages like this one, and the books on the shelf. With plain lettering on in the settings, it writes his part and its italic writes hers.

All three are given under the SIL Open Font License, which asks that their notices travel with them. Here they are. The license itself is printed once, at the back.

A letter none of the three has is borrowed from your own machine, and nothing of your machine's is carried here.

The editions

The five books on the porch shelf are old enough that no one owns them now, and the two first written in Greek are in translations just as old. These are the editions the words come from.

Meditations, by Marcus Aurelius. George Long, 1862.

The Country of the Pointed Firs, by Sarah Orne Jewett. 1896.

Walden, by Henry David Thoreau. 1854.

The Discourses, a Selection, by Epictetus. George Long, 1877, with the Encheiridion.

An Island Garden, by Celia Thaxter. 1894.

The engine

Sandkeeper is built on Godot, a free engine that many people made and gave away. Its license asks to travel with anything made in it, so here it is, as the engine itself gives it.

Godot carries other people's work inside it, and each piece asks the same. They are listed below, with who holds them and under which license. Every license is printed in full at the back.

Everything inside Godot, with who holds it and its license

Steam

On a Mac or a Windows computer the game can talk to Steam, when Steam is running. It does so through GodotSteam, which a few people built for anything made in Godot and gave away. Behind it is Valve's Steamworks SDK, which comes with the game under Valve's own terms.

GodotSteam's license asks to travel with anything made with it. It is short, so here it is in full.

The iPad edition, coming to the App Store, leaves out GodotSteam and the Steamworks SDK.

The licenses in full, as the game carries them

Everything else, every picture, sound and piece of music, is made by Portia Plays.
